You’ve studied hard, labored tirelessly, paid your dues, made connections and one day you meet a person who is where you want to be…On the outside they say hello and look supportive but on the inside they are saying “what are you doing here” or “who do you think you are”…Side bar: the established/religious powers always have issues with people who do not go through them to get what God has freely blessed you with.
Sounds familiar? It is….David, Moses, and Most notably Joseph went through periods when the people they looked UP to looked DOWN on them.
Genesis 37:3-5
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. 4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. 5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
Successful but insecure people will often not speak to or notice you until you get on their status level. Sometimes it is out of arrogance, (after all you didn’t help them get to where they are) other times it’s competitiveness (they wont acknowledge you because it is really seen as an endorsement of who you are)…but most of the time its because of intimidation due to your potential and the way you accelerated through the same things that made them stumble. At times your movement can get so uncomfortable that the one who is insecure will try to befriend you to destroy or sabotage your vision….(In my preaching voice with B3 Organ Sound)
The coat of many colors can be seen as gifts from the father…many gifts, multiple talents (Gold Nugget: the Ephod was of many colors too! Its an indication of the call and anointing on your life). What others had to work for…you were just given and it makes folk mad…making those who seem greater to really reveal themselves as silent haters.
Either way, do not focus on those who see you as a competitor. Stay focused on the vision God gave you and keep it moving….and when you do reach that level or beyond (if you keep God first you will), BE DIFFERENT…never forget where you came from. Always keep a sharp eye for people that look up to you, be willing to help those that cant reciprocate and mentor those who will one day surpass you.
